# Salman Khan’s 1990s Ramayana was shelved after 40% was filmed

Sohail Khan’s planned 1990s adaptation of the Ramayana, starring Salman Khan as Lord Ram and Sonali Bendre as Sita, was abandoned after reportedly completing nearly 40% of filming. The Times of India reports that Pooja Bhatt, who had a key role, left the project after her relationship with Sohail Khan faced family opposition. A separate Times of India report says the exact reasons for shelving the film were never officially disclosed. Other abandoned versions included Rajkumar Santoshi’s proposed film, reportedly featuring Ajay Devgn and Kajol, and Sanjay Khan’s The Legend of Rama, with Hrithik Roshan. Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is scheduled for release on November 6, 2026.
