P. S. Mithran’s spy-thriller sequel Sardar 2, starring Karthi, has been declared a commercial disaster after its worldwide theatrical run ended in 16 days. Tracktollywood.com reports the film grossed ₹24.85 crore globally against a breakeven target of ₹35 crore share, recovering only 34% of its target. The film’s Tamil Nadu collection was ₹11 crore, with ₹6 crore from Telugu states and just ₹4.85 crore from overseas. The film, released on 10 September 2026, began streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 1 October 2026, just 21 days after its theatrical release. Filmibeat.com confirms the OTT premiere, noting the film is available in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The sequel to the 2022 film Sardar had been mounted on a budget exceeding ₹100 crore.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

Tracktollywood.com frames the film as a 'colossal DISASTER,' leading with the low gross and breakeven deficit, while both Filmibeat articles stick to neutral OTT release details with no box office mention. The coverage splits between commercial verdict and streaming logistics, leaving the financial damage undisputed. The key open point is whether the film’s early OTT release on 1 October will recover any losses for producers.
