Most healthy adults who do not exercise regularly need about 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight each day, Times Now News reports. That equals roughly 48 grams for a 60-kg person and 56 grams for someone weighing 70 kg. Higher targets of 1.6 to 2.2 grams per kilogram are mainly intended for athletes and people doing resistance training. Protein supports tissue repair, hormones, immunity and muscle maintenance, but eating more does not build muscle without exercise. Extra protein may be used for energy or stored as fat when calorie intake is high. The report says older adults, people losing weight and those with certain medical conditions may need more. Lentils, beans, eggs, dairy, fish, soy, nuts and seeds offer protein with other nutrients.
