CHANDIGARH: Punjab govt has appointed Aam Aadmi Party leader Jasvir Singh (Jassi Sekhon) from Sangrur as a member of the Punjab Food Commission on Saturday. Sekhon later met chief minister Bhagwant Mann to thank him.Sekhon had contested the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections from the Dhuri constituency (which falls under Sangrur district). He narrowly lost to the Indian National Congress candidate, Dalvir Singh Goldy, by a margin of just 2,811 votes.In the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, Sekhon served as the covering candidate for Bhagwant Mann, who went on to win the Dhuri seat and become the Chief Minister of Punjab.The Punjab Food Commission has been set up to ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, within the state. This Act aims to provide food and nutritional security by ensuring access to adequate quantities of quality food at affordable prices for people to live a life with dignity.
