# Maharashtra LLB admission portal lists fewer colleges over pending approvals 2026-08-05T23:15:22+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk The Free Press Journal reported that applicants going through Maharashtra's centralised admission round for three-year and five-year LLB courses discovered a number of familiar law colleges absent from the first list of options. Officials at the CET Cell said only colleges holding both Bar Council clearance and university affiliation had been included, which left just 93 three-year and 56 five-year colleges available this time, down sharply from 218 and 161 a year earlier, since 125 three-year and 105 five-year institutions had either not finished their approval paperwork or never applied for it. A Higher Education Department official said the Bar Council had given a six-week window for colleges to sort out the formalities, and that colleges completing approval before the next round may be included in later rounds. To limit disruption, the department is also letting students hold onto seats they already have and apply again in a second, betterment round. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The shrunken first-round list traces to colleges that had not completed Bar Council approval or university affiliation, a condition the report says applies this year before a college can enter the centralised process, and the eligibility rules cited, full-time principals, qualified faculty and moot-court infrastructure, are what the Bar Council examines before granting approval.
