# Shanaya Kapoor web series Student Of The Year: After Dark on November 13 2026-10-19T11:56:05+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 3 independent outlets Karan Johar announced Student Of The Year: After Dark, a web series starring Shanaya Kapoor, on the 14th anniversary of the first film. The series will premiere on JioHotstar on November 13. Directed by Reema Maya and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, it trades the franchise’s campus glamour for a thriller competition set at St Teresa’s College. Shanaya Kapoor, making her digital debut, plays a double role. The first look showed the character in a blood-stained avatar. Johar said the series ‘breaks every rule’ of the original 2012 franchise. Reema Maya, known for award-winning shorts Counterfeit Kunkoo and Nocturnal Burger, said the show is ‘stripped to its bones and reimagined as a thriller’. Cast includes Divik Sharma and Manya Grover. The series launches on JioHotstar on November 13. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The three sources covered the announcement uniformly as a neutral industry story. Times Now, Hindustan Times and Bollywood Hungama each led with the November 13 release date, Karan Johar’s anniversary post and the darker tone of After Dark. They all carried the same producer, director and cast details, and quoted Johar, Reema Maya and Shanaya Kapoor on identical lines. No source emphasised a critical angle because the coverage was purely promotional: the makers’ statements were reprinted without scrutiny or independent comment. The only meaningful difference is that Times Now spent more space on the franchise history and the short teaser’s gory hint, while Hindustan Times and Bollywood Hungama foregrounded JioStar executive Alok Jain’s risk-and-responsibility framing. The uniform reporting means the story is exactly what the producers wanted it to be: an unexamined announcement. The real test will be whether viewers respond when the series drops on November 13. ## Coverage Coverage: 3 sources, 3 neutral - timesnownews.com (neutral report) Led with franchise history and teaser death hint - hindustantimes.com (neutral report) Foregrounded JioStar executive's risk framing - bollywoodhungama.com (neutral report) Strict wire-style, all quotes from makers This brief was synthesised by AI from the 3 sources linked above, so one read covers every framing they carry.
