Aishanya
’s peaceful trip to
Pahalgam
turned into a nightmare when she witnessed the brutal killing of her husband, Shubham, and 27 others.
The couple had ventured into the mountains, where horse rides are the only means of reaching higher altitudes due to the lack of proper walking paths. After arriving at the summit, they decided to relax and order a simple meal of Maggi. What was supposed to be a quiet moment of respite quickly turned into a horrifying tragedy.
While Aishanya’s sister rested nearby and her father briefly stepped away, a gunman approached them. He confronted the couple, demanding to know their religious identities. The situation escalated quickly when the attacker opened fire, taking Shubham’s life and that of many others.
Through tears, Aishanya recalled the terrifying moments: “Shubham and I had just reached the top and ordered our Maggi. We were about to eat when my sister sat a little distance away, and my father went to the washroom. That’s when a man approached us, placed a gun to Shubham’s side, and asked him if he was Hindu or Muslim. He then told Shubham, ‘If you’re Muslim, recite the Kalma.’ I jokingly asked him, ‘What happened, Bhaiya (brother)?’ and then he asked me if I was Hindu or Muslim. I told him I was Hindu. Immediately after, he shot Shubham first, then shot 70 other people,” she recalled as tears rolled down her eyes.
