# SIAM withdraws E20 fuel warning, seeks authentication of chloride data

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has withdrawn a letter to the Petroleum Ministry that flagged possible corrosion and wear in vehicle parts linked to chloride in E20 fuel. SIAM said the figures require wider regional data and consultation with member manufacturers. It said the concerns have since been addressed and that the industry supports the E20 blending programme. The withdrawn letter cited chloride levels of up to 500 mg/kg in some fuel samples and moisture above 10,000 mg/kg in some cases. SIAM now points to a 3 ppm chloride and sulphur guideline for ethanol, along with water-ingress checks 8 to 12 times daily at more than 87,000 fuel outlets.
