# Singapore U-20 coach lauds India intensity after friendly defeats 2026-08-24T23:36:41+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Singapore's under-20 men's football head coach Syed Azmir praised India's intensity and physicality after losing both closed-door friendlies 3-0 and 1-0 in India. The matches, played at the Centre for Sports Excellence, were part of Singapore's preparation for the AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2027 qualifiers. Azmir said the results were secondary to testing his players against strong opposition and assessing their performance under pressure. He noted India were well organised, disciplined and punished Singapore's mistakes, giving his team a clear reference of the level needed. ## Indian Opinion Analysis This fixture was a notable step up in the standard Singapore's U-20 side has faced in closed-door friendlies. India's dominant showing builds on its own qualification campaign for the same AFC U20 Asian Cup, for which the team has been in a structured preparatory cycle for months. The result suggests India's depth has improved enough to control games against a Southeast Asian side generally competitive at youth level. For Singapore, the main watch item is the AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2027 qualifying draw, expected in the coming months, which will reveal the strength of the opponents they will need to beat on points, not just on performance. ## Coverage - thehindu.com Lead is the visiting coach's positive assessment rather than the scoreline, neutral frame This story was synthesised by AI from the source linked above.
