# 36 booked after violent Ambala highway protest

Two FIRs have been registered against 36 men after a protest blocked NH-44 and NH-72 in Ambala, according to Hindustan Times. The cases include charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, National Highway Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Those named include Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Jagdish Singh Jhinda, Tarsem Singh, father of jailed MP Amritpal Singh, and Haryana SAD chief Harkesh Singh Mohri. The Hindu reports that police used tear gas and lathicharge after stone pelting and attacks on personnel. Hindustan Times reports that nine policemen were injured, including a DSP who underwent surgery and was admitted to the ICU. The Hindu puts the number at around six. Police say barricades and eight vehicles were damaged. Protesters were seeking action against Gursimran Singh Mand over an alleged attempted car attack.
