Dehydration, salty food, delayed bathroom breaks, poor sleep, fast food and unsupervised painkiller use may put added strain on the kidneys and bladder, according to Dr Ankur Bhatnagar of Sarvodaya Hospital. Weekend travel, outdoor activities and socialising can reduce fluid intake, while alcohol and excess caffeine may worsen dehydration. Concentrated urine can contribute to kidney stones in susceptible people, though water needs vary by person. Regularly holding urine may contribute to bladder problems. Excess sodium can raise blood pressure, a risk factor for chronic kidney disease. Ibuprofen and diclofenac may reduce kidney blood flow, especially during dehydration or in people with existing kidney problems. Late nights and unhealthy food can also raise risks linked to obesity, diabetes and hypertension.
