The system uses proximity sensors and a programmable controller to automatically switch pit lights on when a train enters and off when it leaves. Installed in three pits at a cost of Rs 1.50 lakh, it is estimated to save 88,000 units of electricity and Rs 8.27 lakh annually, paying for itself in about two months.
