# Somnetics CEO Shantanu Som builds global tech from Kolkata 2026-08-19T13:43:48+00:00 | Technology | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Shantanu Som, founder and CEO of Somnetics, is positioning his company as a global technology architect from its headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal. His journey from a rural background in Purulia to leading an international enterprise exemplifies the shift from India being the world's back office to becoming a builder of core intellectual property. Somnetics operates under a 'Made in India, Made for the World' mandate with offices in the United States and the United Kingdom. The company's flagship product, Seamless 4.0, is a cloud-native, low-code/no-code platform driven by microservices orchestration. Designed to democratise digital transformation, it aims to give MSMEs the same architectural capabilities as Fortune 500 enterprises. Som compares his leadership style to bird-in-flight photography, emphasising patience, attention to detail, and quick reflexes. Somnetics is now targeting expansion into Canada and the MENA region. ## Indian Opinion Analysis India's IT services sector has long been dominated by giants in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, making Kolkata a less typical base for a global tech firm. Somnetics' focus on MSMEs taps into a segment that employs roughly 110 million people but often lacks enterprise-grade digital tools. The company's low-code platform competes in a global market projected to exceed Rs 30,000 crore by 2030. Watch for Somnetics' expansion announcements in Canada and the MENA region, which will test whether a Kolkata-headquartered firm can scale across high-growth markets beyond the usual Indian IT corridors. ## Coverage - outlookindia.com Frames Som's story as proof of the $5 trillion economy vision, with no critical or alternative perspective.
