Javagal Srinath, the former India pace spearhead, has emphasised the need for a group of fast bowlers to share the workload and prevent injuries. Speaking at a panel discussion on Saturday, he said a pack of three or four quicks keeps a team effective and reduces the risk of muscle pulls or ligament tears. Srinath stressed that bowlers must play 1,000 to 1,600 overs a year to stay in shape. The 56-year-old, now an ICC Match Referee with over 500 games, also praised Sourav Ganguly's leadership after the 2000 match-fixing scandal. He said that period brought resoluteness in players, helping India win abroad and restore the game's image.
