# SS Rajamouli turns 53, Varanasi set for April 2027 release 2026-10-10T08:31:37+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who turned 53 on Saturday, 10 October 2026, is preparing to release his next film, Varanasi, in theatres worldwide on 7 April 2027. The Economic Times reports the estimated budget at $150 million (about Rs 1,300 to 1,400 crore), which would make it among the most expensive Indian productions. Rajamouli began his career in 2001 with Student No. 1 and went on to deliver hits including the Baahubali franchise and RRR, whose song Naatu Naatu won an Academy Award. The Economic Times notes his first salary was Rs 50 as an assistant editor. Deccan Chronicle describes him as the leading Tollywood director. Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, with locations including Kenya's Maasai Mara and sets built in Hyderabad. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The Economic Times and Deccan Chronicle both offer clearly neutral, career-profile coverage of SS Rajamouli's birthday with uniform factual content. The Economic Times leads with a human-interest detail, his first Rs 50 salary, and includes budget estimates and a confirmed release date for his next film, Varanasi. Deccan Chronicle opens with his record of box-office success and uses the phrase 'Numero Uno Tollywood Director', a mildly promotional label, but reports no conflicting facts. Neither source departs from straight reportage of Rajamouli's biography and upcoming project. The Economic Times gives Varanasi a reported budget of $150 million, Deccan Chronicle names no figure. The coverage is uniform except for that single budget detail, which the Economic Times sources to media reports. Varanasi is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 7 April 2027. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 2 neutral - economictimes.indiatimes.com (neutral report) Human-interest lead, confirms release date and budget - deccanchronicle.com (neutral report) Opens with box-office record, uses promotional label This brief was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above, so one read covers every framing they carry.
