Aryan Mahapatra, a presidential candidate at BJB College in Bhubaneswar, sustained a serious head injury during a clash in Pipili on Sunday, 11 October 2026, Orissa Post reports. The dispute began after more than 15 students held a non-vegetarian feast near Nilakantheswar Temple. Police detained two people for questioning and registered a case. Mahapatra was shifted to Capital Hospital. Separately, tension escalated at Utkal University on the same evening, according to Kalinga TV. Two student groups faced off near ladies hostels during campaigning for student union elections. Police from Saheed Nagar station intervened. It was the second such incident at the university that day, after an earlier scuffle between rival groups and police. Odisha's student union elections, returning after an eight-year hiatus, are scheduled for 15 October. Orissa Post reports that at least 10 colleges have cancelled polls or shut down over security concerns and protests over nominations.
