A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana deferred the hearing after a lawyer informed them that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta is in the United Nations for a function. On July 27, the court had noted the formation of a four-member SIT headed by IGP Kiran S and asked for a forensic auditor to be included. The bench had directed the SIT to submit a status report in two weeks. Petitioners, including BJP leader Narendra Kumar Goswami and RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, have sought a CBI probe and a Comptroller and Auditor General audit.
