# Supreme Court rejects Mahua Moitra plea on police appearance

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s challenge to a Calcutta High Court order requiring her to appear before police in a hate speech case. A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu said it would not interfere after her lawyer sought permission for virtual questioning, citing threats of egg-pelting and an earlier incident in which eggs were thrown. The lawyer withdrew the petition, which was dismissed as withdrawn. The High Court has granted Moitra protection from coercive action until October 5, subject to her cooperating with the investigation. Moitra says the case rests on fabricated allegations.
