# SC stays arrest of Abhishek Banerjee aide in Salboni case

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the arrest of Sumit Roy, personal assistant to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, in a West Bengal land fraud case. The bench directed Roy to join the Salboni police investigation, remain available from 10am to 6pm on designated dates and appear without a lawyer or any other person. He must furnish bail bonds to the investigating officer, Hindustan Times reports. The case concerns alleged sales of government land using fabricated documents. Police linked Roy to the case after questioning former TMC legislator Sujoy Hazra. The Calcutta High Court rejected Roy’s anticipatory bail plea on August 3. The Hindu and Hindustan Times say the arrest stay runs until the next hearing, while The Times of India describes it as week-long interim bail.
