# Surrendered Naxal women walk ramp at Raipur handloom event

Nine women who surrendered from Naxal ranks in Sukma walked the ramp at a National Handloom Day event in Raipur, wearing heirloom sarees and traditional jewellery. Sukma SP Mayank Gurjar said some of them had previously served as gunners for Naxal commanders in Battalion Number 1, while one had carried an INSAS rifle. The women underwent six days of training in Raipur, with participants including prominent ministers, one former Naxalite told Hindustan Times. Another, Poonam Devi, said she surrendered on July 12, 2025, after joining the movement in November 2007. The programme is part of rehabilitation policies by the central and Chhattisgarh governments.
