# Tamil Nadu Assembly passes resolution against delimitation, for women’s quota

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay moved a resolution in the Assembly on Wednesday demanding that the Lok Sabha be frozen at 543 seats and 33% reservation for women be implemented from the 2029 elections without waiting for the Census and delimitation. The resolution warns that southern states which controlled population growth will lose parliamentary seats if delimitation is based on post-1971 census data. The DMK supported the resolution, while the AIADMK and BJP opposed it. The Assembly also passed separate resolutions on Tuesday calling for the abolition of NEET and opposing the FCRA amendment bill. The Federal reports analysts see this as Vijay's attempt to become a voice for southern states beyond Tamil Nadu.
