# Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Prabhakar urges students to watch GDN biopic 2026-08-18T12:08:36+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar has recommended that school and college students watch the biographical film GDN, based on the life of inventor GD Naidu. Speaking about the film starring R Madhavan, Prabhakar suggested the government take public school students to see it, calling the movie "the need of the hour." The Speaker highlighted Naidu's self-taught upbringing and minimal formal education as an example of what curiosity and determination can achieve. He urged young people to develop skills and self-reliance to contribute to India's economic growth rather than wait for opportunities. The film, directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, was released on August 7 and has grossed approximately Rs 5.72 crore so far, according to box office tracker Sacnilk. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Cinema Express covers the GDN story as a single-sourced item, presenting Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar's endorsement without any counterpoint. There is no mention of the film's weak box-office performance or mixed reviews beyond a brief factual note, the article instead amplifies Prabhakar's praise. The piece frames the government official's recommendation as a neutral public statement, not as a political move or a subsidy plea. The lack of critical voices leaves a one-sided impression. A careful reader should note that the Speaker's suggestion implies a potential use of public funds or school time for a commercially struggling film, but the article does not explore that angle. The key number to watch: Rs 5.72 crore lifetime gross, which will determine if the Speaker's recommendation has any actual impact on admissions. ## Coverage Coverage: 1 source, 1 neutral - cinemaexpress.com (neutral report) Leads with Speaker's endorsement, omits analysis of subsidy or political angle, presents film's weak box office as brief context This story was synthesised by AI from the source linked above.
