# Tamil Nadu textile leaders welcome Budget but want power tariff relief

Tamil Nadu's textile industry has broadly welcomed the state Budget presented on Wednesday, with industry bodies calling it progressive. The Southern India Mills Association, Apparel Export Promotion Council, and Tiruppur Exporters' Association praised allocations of Rs 1,678 crore for handlooms and textiles, Rs 2,022 crore for labour welfare, and Rs 4,414 crore for industries, plus a new Textile Technology Centre in Tiruppur. However, several associations flagged that the Budget did not address the long-standing demand to reduce fixed charges on electricity connections by 50 per cent, a pledge made during the election campaign. The Tamil Nadu All Entrepreneurs' Federation noted that fixed charges have risen nearly 480 per cent. The Open End Spinning Mills Association also said the demand was ignored, even as it welcomed infrastructure and power reliability measures.
