# Two organ donors give new life to nine patients

Two organ donations in separate states have given nine patients a second chance at life. In Thiruvananthapuram, the family of C Shivakumar, a 54-year-old Tamil Nadu cable jointer who was declared brain-dead after a cerebral haemorrhage, donated his kidneys, corneas and liver. The Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation coordinated the allocation to patients at Government Medical College Hospital, KIMSHealth and the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. In Loni, Maharashtra, the family of a 28-year-old daily-wage worker who died from head injuries after a fall donated his kidneys, liver and lungs. The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre Pune said the organs went to recipients including two women with chronic kidney disease and a 62-year-old man with end-stage liver disease. Health minister K Muraleedharan thanked the Tamil Nadu family.
