# Tamil Nadu MPs oppose Centre’s delimitation plan, seek freeze at 543

A meeting of Tamil Nadu MPs led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Saturday unanimously resolved to oppose the Centre's proposed delimitation exercise. The meeting demanded that the Lok Sabha strength be frozen at 543 seats and Tamil Nadu retain its 39 seats. Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar alleged the exercise is politically motivated by the BJP for electoral gain. The DMK and AIADMK boycotted the meeting, calling it a 'farce' and 'hurriedly staged drama'. DMK leader A Raja questioned its purpose, while AIADMK criticised the urgency as no delimitation bill has been introduced. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said increasing seats would not improve democracy. The meeting was attended by 19 MPs from Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), MDMK and IUML.
