Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay chaired a meeting of Tamil Nadu MPs from the ruling alliance that unanimously resolved to oppose the Centre's proposed delimitation exercise. The meeting demanded the Lok Sabha be frozen at 543 seats and Tamil Nadu's 39 seats remain unchanged, with a 2.2:1 ratio between Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats. The DMK and AIADMK boycotted the meeting, calling it a 'farce' and a 'hurriedly staged drama'. DMK leader Kanimozhi later termed it a 'political drama' to divert attention from the Cauvery-Mekedatu issue. The meeting resolved to adopt a resolution in the state assembly to permanently safeguard southern states' representation.
