# Tamil Nadu Assembly Unanimously Seeks Fairer Share of Central Taxes

The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Union government to ensure the State receives its due share of tax devolution. The Hindu reports that Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson called for a transparent and equitable formula that considers each State’s contribution, fiscal effort, governance performance and development needs. The resolution said devolution rules should not disadvantage States for population stabilisation and human development achievements. Tamil Nadu has long argued that the current formula penalises economically stronger southern States and could affect its welfare and development programmes. It also asked the Centre to protect the State’s financial interests in future devolution arrangements.
