# Tanush Kotian stakes Test claim after 7-wicket haul against Railways 2026-11-04T20:31:10+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets Mumbai off-spinner Tanush Kotian believes he is close to an India Test cap after taking 7 for 45 against Railways in the Ranji Trophy on Wednesday, 4 November. The 28-year-old has 37 wickets this first-class season across the Duleep Trophy, matches against Australia A and the Ranji Trophy. Kotian told reporters he was preparing to be called up at any time, though selection remained with the selectors. Kotian credited his form surge to off-season work with coaches including Sunil Joshi, and a change in mindset from chasing wickets to building pressure. He said patience and accuracy on the Brabourne pitch, which offered more pace and bounce than a typical slow turner, helped him take two leg-before wickets with straighter deliveries. He also noted differences between the attacking captaincy of Shardul Thakur last year and the calmer style of Siddhesh Lad this season. The Ranji Trophy pauses for Mumbai after this match, with the next league game scheduled for 17 January. India are due to play the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Nagpur on 21 January. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both Freepress Journal and Hindustan Times report Kotian's 7 for 45 and his statement that he feels close to selection.
