# Security forces hunt suspected LeT commander over Kashmir killings 2026-08-05T23:15:37+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk India Today reported that security agencies have intensified the hunt for Mohammad Lateef Bhat, a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, over a string of recent targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir. A reward of Rs 15 lakh is now on offer for information leading to his arrest, and his picture has gone up on wanted posters across Srinagar and other parts of the Valley. He is believed to have slipped away during the Shopian encounter that killed fellow LeT commander Zakir Ganai, and investigators suspect him of helping coordinate the killing of a head constable in a separate attack in Anantnag days earlier, as well as the killing of two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh, Deepak and Bhupender, who were shot in Kulgam on 31 July, Deepak died at the scene, Bhupender later in hospital. Agencies are separately examining whether the attacks tie back to The Resistance Front and handlers across the border. ## Indian Opinion Analysis None of this is adjudicated: Bhat has not been charged in any court filing described in the reporting, and the account attributes the sleeper-cell and cross-border coordination claims to security officials' assessment rather than to evidence produced so far.
