# Bombay High Court Convicts Tarun Tejpal in 2013 Goa Case

The Goa bench of the Bombay High Court has overturned Tarun Tejpal’s 2021 acquittal and convicted the Tehelka founder of rape and sexual harassment in the 2013 Goa case. The court found him guilty under Sections 376(2)(F), 376(2)(K), 354A and 354B of the Indian Penal Code. The case concerns allegations by a former colleague involving incidents in a hotel elevator on November 7 and 8, 2013. Tejpal, 62, called himself a “political victim” and said he would challenge the verdict in a higher court. His lawyer sought leniency, citing his age and family. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta urged the court to impose the maximum punishment. NDTV reports that the survivor’s resignation letter had warned of “character assassination” against her.
