# Telangana doctor’s absence exposes expired drugs at his private hospital

A Telangana government doctor’s absence from night duty led health officials to inspect his private hospital, KBR Life Care in Sangareddy district, on August 10. The Hindu reports that nearly 75% of laboratory reagents had expired, along with expired drugs and anaesthesia in the operation theatre. Officials found unlabelled syringes, improper biomedical waste segregation, and a mobile ultrasound machine that could be misused for sex determination tests. The doctor, Deputy Civil Surgeon K. Ramesh, was suspended on August 7 for skipping duty and arranging a private substitute. The operation theatres were closed, and surgical procedures banned until further orders. Separately, a Lokayukta team in Karnataka’s Hungund found 23 expired saline bottles and other lapses, including foul-smelling toilets and a locked ICU at a public hospital.
