Before the November 2024 waiver of life tax and quarterly tax, the state had recorded 47,730 EV registrations. In the 2025-26 financial year alone, 91,572 EVs were registered, and by June 2026 the total reached about 1.58 lakh. The tax benefit has cost the exchequer an estimated Rs 1,483 crore in foregone revenue.
