# Telangana extends age relaxation for police jobs as aspirants protest

The Telangana government on August 14 added two more years of age relaxation for direct recruitment to uniformed services, extending the upper age limit by a total of seven years. The move follows sustained protests by lakhs of police job aspirants who have been waiting since 2022. In July, the Revanth Reddy government notified only 7,437 constable and SI vacancies, far fewer than the 17,000 figure officials had previously indicated. Candidates say they have crossed age limits and spent up to Rs 5 lakh on coaching. The Federal reports that protesters are also demanding the scrapping of GO 46, which reserves 95% of posts for local candidates. The Hindu reports that the government acted after receiving several representations from unemployed youth.
