Students who repeatedly abuse drugs or engage in peddling may lose eligibility for fee reimbursement and welfare benefits such as Rythu Bharosa. The proposed law also allows cancellation of recognition for institutions that wilfully neglect drug activity or fail to alert police. The decision follows high-level meetings last month where officials had first proposed a government order mandating anti-drug committees on campuses. Police believe the lack of such a mandatory requirement reduced the seriousness of institutions.
