In the first phase, 15 stations will be set up at deputy transport commissioner and regional transport officer offices, split into two clusters. Currently, motor vehicle inspectors perform visual checks, which officials said can result in certificates being issued without proper assessment. Transport commissioner K Ilambarithi said the new system will upload test results directly to the Union transport ministry’s Vahan portal, reducing manual discretion and the scope for manipulation. The government plans to expand to 37 stations in total.
