Apple restored Telegram on its App Store within hours after briefly removing the messaging app over illegal child sexual abuse material, the Economic Times reports. Telegram founder Pavel Durov said on 4 August that an attacker planted AI-modified content inside an edited old message in a public group and reported it to Apple. He called the tactic “takedown extortion”. LiveMint, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, reported that Telegram removed the content and banned the user who posted it. Telegram remained available on Google Play and the Mac App Store, while existing users retained access and data. Durov warned that any app hosting user content could face similar attacks, though he said such illegal material was not a systemic problem on Telegram.
