# Air India appoints former Ethiopian Airlines chief Tewolde Gebremariam

Air India has appointed Tewolde Gebremariam as its chief executive officer and managing director. He will succeed Campbell Wilson, who stepped down in April 2026 and remained until a successor was named. Gebremariam led Ethiopian Airlines Group for 11 years and has more than 37 years of aviation experience. Air India credited him with managing complex operations, developing hubs, and building maintenance and training infrastructure. The Hindu said Gebremariam was most recently selected to lead Pakistan International Airlines. Hindustan Times reported that he had been in talks for the PIA role until last month. Air India is entering its next phase of expansion after stabilisation, integration and fleet commitments under Wilson.
