# Texas council unanimously approves mosque project after five-hour debate

McKinney City Council in Texas unanimously approved a site plan for a new mosque after a meeting lasting more than five hours on Wednesday. More than 100 people signed up to speak, with several opposing what they called the “Islamification” of the country. The McKinney Islamic Association plans to build a campus on 5.5 acres along Virginia Parkway. The association withdrew an earlier proposal in 2024 after opposition and concerns over city standards, then submitted a revised plan with three buildings: a sanctuary, classrooms and a multi-purpose gym, WFAA reported. US Representative Keith Self criticised political Islam, while former mayor George Fuller defended the association’s members as local families and neighbours.
