Three months into the academic year, over 81,000 textbooks are yet to reach students in Vijayapura educational district, Karnataka. The shortfall, concentrated in Muddebihal taluk where 77,097 books are missing, affects Social Science, Science and Mathematics for Class 8 under the 'Vidya Vikas Yojana'. Officials of the School Education Department told Deccan Herald the shortage stems from a central office that supplied books based on last year’s enrolment numbers, and lack accurate data on current requirements.
