# Thej to unveil new film Dude at Akka Sammelana in Philadelphia 2026-08-26T23:17:27+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Actor-director Thej will introduce his upcoming Kannada film Dude at the Akka Sammelana in Philadelphia, which begins on September 4. The film, centred on women's football, has completed about 80 per cent of its shooting across Dubai, Bengaluru and the USA. The makers are now planning the final schedule, including portions with Raghavendra Rajkumar. Dude is conceived as a tribute to late actor Puneeth Rajkumar and is set against an Appu football tournament. Alongside football, the film weaves comedy, a love story, and the emotional struggles of middle-class families. Thej stars in the lead, with Raghavendra Rajkumar appearing as himself and contributing to the scripting. The film introduces several new actors including Dhrithi, Eva, and Yashaswini. Dude is scheduled for an early 2027 release. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Thej's decision to launch Dude at a diaspora event in the US reflects a growing trend among Kannada filmmakers to tap into overseas Kannada audiences for buzz before a domestic release. Women's football is a rare subject in Kannada cinema, and the film's tribute to Puneeth Rajkumar, whose Appu (2002) remains a cult classic, could draw nostalgic crowds. With post-production still pending and a release date nearly two years away, the key milestone to watch is the completion of Raghavendra Rajkumar's scenes, which will determine whether the film sticks to its early 2027 window. ## Coverage - cinemaexpress.com Straightforward announcement of film's progress and plans, no editorial slant.
