A senior citizen, V. Loganayaki of Thiruthuraipoondi, has lodged a complaint of house grabbing by a money lender with the Tiruvarur District Police.
According to official sources, the complainant lost her husband, Veeramuthu in 1989, and was living with his two sons, Suresh and Sundar at Thiruthuraipoondi. A few years ago, Mr. Suresh suffered losses in his business and borrowed ₹5 lakh from a local money lender at high interest rate on daily basis.
The money lender exerted pressure on Mr. Suresh to return the principal even after Mr. Suresh had repaid about ₹13 lakh, Ms. Loganayaki alleged.
A few months ago, the money lender barged into their house and threatened Mr. Suresh, Mr. Sundar and other family members of ‘dire consequences’ if Mr. Suresh did not arrange for settling the “balance loan amount”.
The two brothers were out of station during vacation holidays. Ms. Loganayaki, who had age-related health issues, moved to Tiruvarur where her daughters – Sudha and Sumathi – were residing with their families, in June.
When she returned to Thiruthuraipoondi on July 2, she found that the money lender had occupied her house.
She then lodged a complaint with the district police seeking their help in retrieving her house grabbed by the money lender.
