# Three major football bodies demand independent probe into FIFA chief Infantino

The confederations criticized an emergency meeting Infantino held last week in Morocco with select management members instead of in Zurich. The U.S. and Canada Soccer federations, co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, backed the letter, putting them at odds with co-host Mexico, which supports Infantino. FIFA responded Saturday, alleging an effort to undermine the governing body. Infantino, 56, faces re-election in 2027. Around 70 of FIFA's 211 member associations have publicly backed him, while about a dozen have withdrawn support.
