The Times of India reports that his parents took him to Surya Hospital in Santa Cruz for fever, pain, vomiting and loose stools, initially diagnosed as gastroenteritis. An ultrasound suggested acute appendicitis, but during operation surgeons found pus and two magnets sticking to their metal catheter. The magnets came from a toy the parents later found at home. Surgeon Dr Satej Mhasker said the magnets have five to 30 times the strength of ordinary magnets. The UK’s NHS reported 65 children needing surgery over three years after swallowing similar magnets.
