TRAI relaunched MyCall on August 3, allowing Android users to rate recent calls from one to five stars and report problems such as dropped calls, echo, audio delay and voice breaking. The regulator will send anonymised feedback to telecom operators, alongside details such as signal strength and location during the call. The iOS version is pending technical discussions with Apple. TRAI Chairperson Anil Kumar Lahoti said using the app will remain voluntary and it will not be pre-installed on phones. The feedback will help operators locate recurring network issues, but penalties will continue to rely on technical measurements, reports and drive tests. TRAI is separately considering rules for IP-based interconnection between telecom networks.
