Eight participants came from Wayanad, four each from the Paniya and Kattunaika communities. They created original songs using traditional languages, instruments and musical forms under the guidance of senior musicians. The programme taught songwriting, recording, YouTube monetisation, copyright and royalty sharing. The artistes are expected to receive free IPRS enrolment and authorship rights to the songs they created. NGOs working with indigenous musicians say many performers remain poorly paid and unaware of their legal rights.
