The Wall Street Journal reports that US President Donald Trump is prepared to end the military standoff with Iran and drop demands for a nuclear agreement if Tehran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has privately told aides he could declare victory without a formal nuclear deal, the Journal said quoting unnamed officials. However, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that an agreement with Oman on new shipping lanes is "very close" but reiterated that the waterway will not reopen until the US meets conditions including compensation, lifting sanctions, and ending military threats.
