Coimbatore:Two urban primary health centres (UPHCs) of the Coimbatore Corporation are awaiting the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. Out of the total 32 UPHCs in the city, 12 have so far received the NQAS certification. According to a corporation officer, the inspection for Thudiyalur and RS Puram UPHCs were completed in April. The results are expected next week. “We are sure to achieve above 90%, which is more than sufficient to get certified,” the official said. The certificates are valid for three years. After that, the corporation should apply for revaluation. The NQAS is a comprehensive framework implemented by the central govt to improve the quality of care at public health centres.
“The major criterion is the proper maintenance of records. Going for this certificate would enable us to retain it further with the same standards. Other factors are the infrastructure of each department, patient care, efficiency of services provided and much more,” the official said. The city corporation has proposed NQAS for Seeranaickenpalayam and Kalveerampalayam UPHCs. The inspection for these centres is expected later this month. “Moving further, the civic body aims at achieving NQAS for all the UPHCs in this financial year,” he said.
