The Chittoor POCSO Court on Tuesday has sentenced two persons for life imprisonment for raping a minor girl under Tiruchanur Police station limits in Tirupati district in the year 2019.
After having darshan at Tirumala along with her family members, the girl hailing from Madanapalle was proceeding to Tiruchanur Sri Padmavati Ammavari temple around midnight on November 24, 2019, when she sought lift from 34-year-old Chittoor Venkatesh and 34-year-old Bukke Rajamohan Naik, named as the A1 and A2 respectively in the case.
Venkatesh sent his friend Naik on the pretext of bringing petrol as his two wheeler tank had turned empty. When the latter returned, they both took the girl to a remote location and raped her. When the girl came to her senses and raised an alarm to draw the attention of the passers-by, the two fled in the cover of darkness.
Based on the girl’s complaint, the Tiruchanur police registered a case and filed a charge sheet, naming the duo as the accused.
Judge M. Sankar Rao, in his verdict pronounced on Tuesday (August 26), sentenced the two to undergo life imprisonment till the end of their life.
After imposing a fine of ₹17,500 and ₹13,500 respectively on the A1 and A2, the court also directed payment of a compensation of ₹3 lakh to the minor girl.
Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju appreciated the Special Public Prosecutor Vimala Kumari, who argued the case, and the liaison officer Girish, who presented the witnesses in the court.
