Another accused, Bapu Rao, is absconding. Police linked the arrests to evidence gathered while investigating a victim’s suicide. The accused allegedly obtained details of the victim’s government job, salary and service through a Right to Information application. They then threatened to get her dismissed unless she paid money. Police also said the men threatened others with adverse articles and police complaints. Extortion cases were registered under Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in Kamareddy, Yellareddy, Domakonda, Gandhari and Devunipalli.
