The state has formed 4,951 primary milk cooperative societies under the Nand Baba Dugdh Mission, a project of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Dairy Commissioner Dhanalakshmi K told The Hindu that UP contributed 38.8 million metric tonnes of milk in 2024-25, accounting for 16 percent of India's total production of 248 million metric tonnes, making it the top milk-producing state. The Dairy Development Department held a district-level Dairy Conclave-2026 across all 75 districts on August 5 to promote welfare schemes. The department has signed MOUs worth over Rs 28,000 crore with dairy sector stakeholders. Workshops on modern technologies and scientific livestock management are being regularly held, the commissioner added.
